AIHO letter to The Guardian regarding ‘Hospitals are in a state of war’ article
Press Release - 10 February 2017
The article “Hospitals are in state of 'war', UK government adviser says” (10 February) reports on the number of non-urgent operations undertaken by the independent sector.
Amid increasing pressures on the NHS, the independent sector is helping to alleviate NHS capacity demands at no extra cost to taxpayers. Our involvement also provides greater choice to NHS funded patients. We believe there needs to be a strategic conversation between the NHS and the independent sector about how we can collaboratively plan and work together to ensure the system is sustainable. This will enable us to meet Britain’s growing healthcare demands and ensure more patients have swift access to the care they need.
